Course Description
We study selected criminal justice systems in other jurisdictions, including the organization, administration and operation of criminal justice agencies in the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Asia. Pre-requisite: None
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: This course will focus on comparative studies of criminology and criminal justice from an Asian perspective.
CILO-2: We will introduce issues fundamental to comparative criminal justice and criminological research.
CILO-3: The topics include fundamental questions of comparative criminal justice and Asian Perspectives in comparative criminological research.
CILO-4: The course discusses major developments in comparative criminology in Asia.
CILO-5: Students are also exposed to a wider range of the research area through guided readings.
CILO-6: A primary objective is to teach students how to read cutting edge research articles, train their ability to thoroughly understand complex materials of various forms, outline the contents of these materials, recognize research questions and their significance, and to recognize the innovations that the author proposes and tries to demonstrate.
CILO-7: Students will learn by training the ability to ask interesting research questions and follow through with answers.
CILO-8: They will work with groups to discuss the issues and resolve difficulties, learn how to critically evaluate research within its context, and will propose their own views and plan for further research.
