Course Description
This course traces the origins and historical development of the activities known as 'organized crime.' These crimes are some of the most dangerous to society and they range from the commonly known offenses of gambling, loan sharking, and narcotics to the more subtle and sophisticated, less understood but equally serious, crimes of extortion, commercial bribery and political corruption. Pre-requisite: None
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: This course will introduce the concepts and theories of organized crime and explore the origins and different phenomena under different social contexts.
CILO-2: Objectives: Students will learn not only traditional and contemporary organized crimes especially in Chinese society but also varied organized crimes in terms of both local and cross borders. Students can easily understand by introducing well-known organized crime cases.
CILO-3: Students can easily understand by introducing well-known organized crime cases.
CILO-4: Through the course, students are expected to critically review the major theories of organized crime, identify the main characteristics and forms of organized crime and analyze some counter measures and government policies to organized crime.
