Course Description
Sociology of Aging provides an analytical framework for understanding the interplay between human lives and changing social structures in regards to aging. The course addresses the ways in which aging is socially defined and experienced. It also applies a critical perspective to the ways in which aging is framed by family, groups, and society. The course covers how ageing issues are constructed differently over time and in different cultures. Students will gain a thorough understanding of aging and the various factors that affect aging experience in our society.

CILO-1: Discuss how aging is socially defined and experienced.
CILO-2: Describe how aging issues are framed in the larger social context.
CILO-3: Identify interdisciplinary approaches to the aging experience.
CILO-4: Synthesize different types of sources of information to examine aging issues through the paper, readings and activities, and discussions.
