Course Description
This course is built on the subjects and skills covered in the previous course 'Advanced Spanish for Specific Purposes I' but at a more advanced level. The main target is to provide students with the chance to apply their newly acquired knowledge in a wide variety of situations through realistic tasks, oral interaction in pairs and group work, role playing, presentations, etc. Authentic reading and audiovisual materials are also used throughout the course. In addition, students will analyze and practice advanced grammatical skills in order to develop a higher proficiency in speaking and writing. By the end of the course, students should be able to understand long articles related to cultural and business topics, to use Spanish effectively and precisely for social and professional purposes, and to develop an understanding of Hispanic culture, society, and business practices.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Reading 1. Comprehend different text genres; 2. Identify the characteristics of each text genre; 3. Identify the main ideas of different text genres.
CILO-2: Oral Comprehension and Production 1. Restructure discourse in different forms; 2. Use communication strategies according to different linguistic situations; 3. Produce a clear and well structured discourse, appropriate for different types of communication situations; 4. Retell sequences of historical events and fictional narratives; 5. Research on topics of general interest; 6. Reflect upon issues of common interest; 7. Identify the main ideas of oral texts; 8. Understand and give instructions according to the intended communicative situation; 9. Engage in oral discussions on given topics; 10. Be able to present ideas freely, without textual support.
CILO-3: Writing 1. Identify the main ideas of written texts; 2. State and justify personal opinions; 3. Achieve written fluency; 4. Use cohesion and coherence devices appropriately; 5. Use appropriate vocabulary when writing.
