This course focuses on building over the two previous years’ work, but at a more advanced level by developing and increasing students´ skills in the areas of listening and reading, but mainly in speaking and writing. Through a variety of cultural readings, grammar will be thoroughly reviewed and reinforced, vocabulary will be expanded, and by analyzing cultural issues students will have the chance to improve their oral skills. By the end of this course, students will be able to understand the main ideas of a relatively complex standard text as well as to interact with native speakers with a certain degree of fluency and will acquire a more solid command of linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic competencies.

CILO-1: Relate a narrative or description as a linear sequence of points. CILO-2: Talk about real or imagined events. CILO-3: Interact with ease in stuctured situations and short conversations. CILO-4: Give a prepared presentation on a familiar topic. CILO-5: Comment on the main points of broadcast news about familiar subjects. CILO-6: Express personal opinions and exchange information on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or related to everyday life. CILO-7: Describe actions in the future. CILO-8: Identify different types of texts (literary vs nonliterary). CILO-9: Critically read newspaper articles and literary texts. CILO-10: Identify different cultural aspects of the Portuguese speaking countries, Macao and China.
