Course Description
Philosophy has a long history in many cultures and is found within all literate societies. In many parts of the world people have asked philosophical questions about reality, the self, and about what constitutes a good life and their answers have been shaped by their cultures and historical contexts. Philosophical reflection has also had a formative impact on social and cultural forms. This course provides and accessible introduction to a selection of the central streams of world philosophy, such as Japanese and Korean philosophy, Indian philosophy, and Islamic Philosophy.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Explain philosophy as a global phenomenon.
CILO-2: Identify some of the ways in which philosophy and culture interact.
CILO-3: Discuss key philosophical debates from a wider range of perspectives than those available solely within either Western of Chinese philosophy.
