Course Description
Philosophy of science is an applied discipline that studies the normative structure of scientific reasoning and examines scientific practices from a critical perspective. This course will address some of the central problems regarding the nature of scientific theories, knowledge, and methodology by examining the major traditional issues and contemporary topics of discussion in the field.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Understand what science, scientific methodology and scientific explanations are; distinguish scientific knowledge from other kinds of knowledge.
CILO-2: Master and be able to apply in a variety of contexts the key notions in philosophy of science (e.g., falsification, verification, paradigm, realism, etc.).
CILO-3: Discuss critically the nature of scientific knowledge and its role in society.
