Course Description
This is an advanced course regarding the mathematical statistics. The course is intended to teach the first year PhD students the fundamental topics in statistical theory. The principles of the estimation and hypothesis testing will be introduced. Other topics including risk theory and analysis of variance will be also covered. Some practical data analysis will be involved.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Illustrate the connection and difference between probability theory and statistical theory.
CILO-2: Apply principles of statistical inference, including estimation and hypothesis testing to analyse complex data and draw valid conclusions.
CILO-3: Clarify the principles of the point and interval estimation, and criteria of assess the estimation methods.
CILO-4: Explain the connection between the interval estimation and hypothesis testing, and assessment of the testing methods.
CILO-5: Ultilize the statistical tools into the risk theory and decision theory.
