Course Description
This course aims to provide a solid foundation in the field of linguistics. Through a combination of theoretical concepts and practical examples, students will gain a deeper understanding of the structure of the Japanese language. This course introduces topics on phrase and sentence structure, meaning of language as well as language variation and language change.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Students will be able to identify core concepts in general linguistics, as well as key terminology related to syntax, semantics, phonetics, sociolinguistics, and historical linguistics.
CILO-2: Students will be able to comprehend basic academic writings in the areas of Japanese syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and historical linguistics, and express their understanding in spoken and written Japanese.
CILO-3: Students will be able to describe and analyze the structure of the Japanese language, including phrases and sentences, meaning, language variation, and language change.
CILO-4: Students will be able to conduct complex surveys on specific linguistic topics and articulate their thoughts in spoken and written Japanese.
