Course Description
This course aims to provide a solid foundation in the field of linguistics. Through a combination of theoretical concepts and practical examples, students will gain a deeper understanding of the structure of the Japanese language. This course begins by introducing the fundamental concepts in linguistics and then proceeds to topics on sounds of language, writing systems and word structure.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Students will be able to identify core concepts in general linguistics, as well as key terminology related to phonetics, phonology, writing systems, and morphology.
CILO-2: Students will be able to comprehend basic academic writings in the areas of Japanese phonetics, phonology, writing system, and morphology, and express their understanding in spoken and written Japanese.
CILO-3: Students will be able to describe and analyze the structure of the Japanese language, including sounds, writing system, and words.
CILO-4: Students will be able to conduct preliminary surveys on specific linguistic topics and articulate their thoughts in spoken and written Japanese.
