This course introduces traditional and modern visual and performing arts in Japan. An overview of the development of visual and performing arts in Japan will be introduced. At the end of the course, students will be able to recognize various historical traditions in Japanese art and modern Japanese art.

CILO-1: Students will be able to identify a variety of Japanese visual and performing arts. CILO-2: Students will be able to explain the history of some main artworks and general principles of Japanese aesthetics. CILO-3: Students will be able to conduct informed discussions and express reasoned opinions regarding both traditional and modern Japanese arts.
