Course Description
This course examines how environmental factors—particularly chemical, biological, and physical agents—impact public health. Students will learn the foundational concepts and principles of environmental health sciences, with a focus on major environmental hazards and their related health outcomes. Additionally, the course provides opportunities to critically evaluate peer-reviewed literature on current environmental health challenges.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify major environmental agents (e.g., environmental chemical, biological, and physical agents that cause adverse effects on human health) and their sources.
CILO-2: Describe exposure pathways and dose-response relationships for key environmental hazards (e.g., air/water pollutants, pesticides).
CILO-3: Assess environmental and occupational health risks in populations using epidemiological principles.
CILO-4: Evaluate environmental justice issues, including disparities in exposure and health impacts.
CILO-5: Compare evidence-based prevention strategies to that mitigate environmental health risks.
CILO-6: Describe current and emerging global environmental challenges (e.g., climate change) and their public health implications.
CILO-7: Critically assess peer-reviewed literature on environmental health topics.
