Course Description
This course aims to provide students with hands-on experience through a series of laboratory experiments, designed to examine various genetics phenomena in order to better understand fundamental genetics principles and concepts. In addition, students can learn some commonly used techniques used in the study of genes and learn how to explore and interrogate research databases to search for information related to genes such as their genomic location, functions and products. The concepts and techniques will be delivered in forms of small projects to train and equip students to solve biological questions using the relevant genetics knowledge and experimental approaches.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Apply basic concepts and principles of genetics in laboratory settings.
CILO-2: Practice commonly used molecular biology techniques at the bench and in silico for gene manipulation, expression and functional studies.
CILO-3: Examine the fundamental theories in areas of genetics through series of laboratory experiments.
CILO-4: Design experiments in silico using software.
CILO-5: Investigate and interrogate useful public databases to identify useful gene information.
CILO-6: Analyze, make conclusion based on experimental data, organize and prepare written scientific reports.
