In this course students will explore the fascinating and intriguing phenomenon in cultural history of Macao from the sixteenth century to the nineteenth century. Lectures and discussions will focus on the cases of cross-cultural exchanges between East and West in the making of a unique Macanese identity. Students will examine the multidimensional character and meanings of Macao’s cultural, religious, culinary, gaming, and architectural heritage. Pre-requisite: None.
