Course Description
This course offers an introduction to urban history, examining the forces that have shaped urban life and development over time. It investigates the origins, growth, and transformation of cities, emphasizing human interactions and the broader political, economic, and social forces they reflect. The course explores the role of government, urban planners, citizens, and private actors in shaping cities, as well as the influence of national, transnational, and global ideas and practices on urban change. Through case studies and thematic analysis, students will examine the rise and decline of cities and the complex dynamics driving urban evolution.
