Course Description
This course is designed for PhD students in political science and public administration to introduce research methodology’s application in academic writing. To meet the requirements of journal publication and dissertation writing, PhD students should establish a solid foundation in English academic writing early in their academic careers. This course will cover the basic guidelines of English academic writing in public administration and political science, specifically aiming to improve students’ English academic writing skills and help them develop their research agenda. Furthermore, this course will help them actively apply basic quantitative and qualitative research design methodologies in academic writing.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Search, organize, and review major academic literature of the field and/or related to student’s own research, and find research gaps and research questions.
CILO-2: Facilitate theory, hypothesis and primary results of a manuscript.
CILO-3: Develop and write up individual research plan and/or proposal.
CILO-4: Apply basic quantitative and qualitative research design methodology in academic writing.
CILO-5: Apply other necessary writing skills to develop manuscripts for academic publication and Ph.D. dissertation.
