Course Description
This course surveys the basic concepts and contexts of contemporary Chinese foreign policy, factors and determinants in Chinese foreign policy making, key issues in Chinese foreign policy (including sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security, economic security, energy, resource, environment, and soft power). It discusses China’s bilateral and multilateral diplomacy in regional and global contexts, the challenges facing contemporary Chinese foreign policy, and how China should respond to those challenges.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify main factors and issues in Chinese foreign policy, its priorities and approaches, and the broader historical and global contexts of China’s role in the world.
CILO-2: Evaluate policy making processes and consequences in foreign policy analysis and demonstrate an adequate grasp of great power relations in general.
CILO-3: Use evidence and reasoned argument to analyze contemporary issues in Chinese foreign policy
CILO-4: Identify major challenges facing Chinese foreign relations and make policy-relevant recommendations.
