Course Description
This course focuses on the relations between China and the European Union (EU). Substantively, it first provides a comprehensive survey of China-EU relations different aspects, including political-strategic, economic, sociocultural, environmental-energy, and technological. It then embeds China-EU relations in a broader context, particularly within two triads: China-US-EU and China-Russia-EU. Further, it explores the role of China and the EU in their respective neighborhood.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify key phases in the evolution of China-EU relations from the 1970s to the present and pinpoint the driving factors that underlie the changes.
CILO-2: Identify the strategic priorities in China-EU relations and the key issues and challenges that have enabled or hindered bilateral cooperation.
CILO-3: Explain the role of third parties, not least the US and Russia, in the evolution of EU-China relations and global power politics at large.
CILO-4: Make evidence-based independent judgements on the current state of affairs in China-EU relations.
