Course Description
This course examines the nature and emergence of the current ecological crisis from the perspective of the political economy of development. This course will introduce students to the beginning of industrial development, the politics of energy and environmental policies. Key issues include: uneven development, ecological crises and global governance on climate change. Students will learn how to critically evaluate the international policies and institutions of sustainable development and assess the prospects and challenges to green development, including the idea of eco-socialism with China as a case study.
