This course will introduce students to a variety of theoretical frameworks used in literary and cultural criticism, training them to engage with complex theoretical concepts and articulate theoretical understandings in scholarly arguments. The course will use a variety of source texts and exercises as practical examples and will be assessed by coursework.

CILO-1: Recognise, evaluate and apply different theoretical approaches in literary and cultural criticism. CILO-2: Apply literary theory to specific research projects. CILO-3: Effectively present the use of literary theory in presentations. CILO-4: Effectively present the use of literary theory in scholarly writing. CILO-5: Demonstrate how literary theory can advance interpretation and acknowledge potential shortcomings in these approaches.
