This course studies in greater detail the patterns and functions of sounds in English. The course will deal with both the segmental and suprasegmental issues of English, and will discuss, in particular, the phonemic or phonological problems in the analysis of English.

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: 1. Demonstrate a detailed understanding of segmental and suprasegmental issues of English; 2. Perform a phonemic and phonological analysis of English; 3. Discuss the problems related to a phonemic or phonological analysis of English.
