Course Description
This course provides advanced and specialised training on communication research methods. Content areas vary according to the expertise of the instructor, and the interests of the students. The instructor will select relevant readings, and design in-class as well as homework assignments to help students gain knowledge of, and experience, with a specific area of qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods in the context of communication research. Students will collect and analyse data through such methods, then produce manuscripts for academic conferences then eventually publications in academic journals.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify, describe, and apply various communication methodologies, such as surveys, content analysis, experimental research, interviewing, ethnographic research, digital data collection.
CILO-2: Discuss and explain how various research methods relate to communicative and social issues and questions.
CILO-3: Evaluate the connection between various research approaches, knowledge forms, and communication methodologies.
CILO-4: Design and implement a research method that is appropriate to a topic that the student will explore in their thesis.
