Course Description
This course introduces the key points of fluid mechanics. The fundamental laws and the derivation methods will be introduced. How to apply the knowledges to the typical hydrodynamic engineering projects will be explained. The analytical methods for predicting hydrodynamic processes will be illustrated, including tubular flows, 1-D total flows, and inviscid flows using Navier-Stokes equations.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Apply knowledge about the fluid mechanics including hydrostatics, problems of inviscid flows, viscous and turbulent flows, and boundary layer theory to solve hydrodynamic problems.
CILO-2: Identify the relevant fields of this knowledge in technical problems and solve them by using the methods taught, such as to predict floods under given scenarios.
CILO-3: Quantify the key parameters associated with governing equations and empirical relations, and apply the knowledge to propose flood mitigation strategy.
